The Alcohol Beverage Industry Supply Chain Council (ABI SCC), formerly the Alcohol Beverage Industry Electronic Commerce Council (ABI EC), is a voluntary, non-profit organization formed in 1990. ABI SCC provides a forum for alcohol beverage industry members to work together to improve supply chain efficiencies and drive data accuracy through the use of electronic commerce, established industry standards and best practices.
ABI SCC represents member companies and ensures that standards are meeting industry needs. Currently our goals are to:
Meet to review and discuss industry developments concerning supply chain efficiencies enabled through electronic commerce initiatives |
- Develop and publish a complete electronic order-to-cash process between suppliers and distributors / wholesalers and promote its adoption |
- Provide industry-specific electronic commerce educational opportunities and resources |
- Publish industry specific guidelines for exchanging clean and accurate product information |
To represent the alcohol beverage industry in standards-setting bodies |
Our membership consists of suppliers, distributors, control states, industry associations, and solution providers. The common thread is our interest in driving supply chain efficiencies and an understanding of the complexities that are unique in the alcohol beverage industry.
Members of the ABI SCC learned, through retailers, about the global adoption of the standards of the GS1 System (formerly the EAN.UCC System) by the grocery and retail industries. Recognizing these standards as proven solutions for supply chain efficiency, the ABI SCC Executive Committee adopted these standards, which also provided ABI SCC member companies the opportunity to join Work Groups associated with the GS1 Global Standards Management Process (GSMP). By participating in the GSMP, ABI SCC member companies are advocates for the alcohol beverage industry concerns and are able to influence the standards with regard to the industry’s unique and particular needs.
In 2002, ABI SCC chose GS1 US™ to serve as the organization’s Secretariat. GS1 US is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the adoption and implementation of standards-based, global supply chain solutions and the national implementation organization in the United States for the GS1 System standards.
Through this relationship, we now offer our annual ABI SCC educational conference in conjunction with the annual GS1 US U Connect Conference. This “Conference within a Conference” format provides ABI SCC members with access to the international world of standards, real world information about increasing supply chain efficiency, first hand accounts of how leading brand owners and distributors are currently utilizing standards to improve their businesses, discussions and presentations highlighting emerging applications, and the opportunity to meet counterparts from other industry verticals who are facing similar supply chain challenges.
GS1 US also provides ABI SCC members with access to standards, guidelines, and tools that support the Global Trade Item Number® (GTIN®), the globally unique GS1 System identification number for products and services; the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN), which ensures the quality of product information in data synchronization; and 1SYNCTM, a GDSN-certified, U.S.-based data pool that offers data synchronization services to enable trading partners to exchange accurate, standards-compliant data.
